In the late 70s Gilbert Pounia and his group Ziskakan emerged on the music scene in Reunion, pioneering the 'rebel' sound of maloya. Campaigning for the official recognition of Creole and preserving their traditional music heritage in the process, this militant troupe have established themselves as a leading force on the international 'world' scene.
