A group of forty-something friends, lovers, husbands and wives gather for dinner during the annual 'Fête de la musique' in Paris, and the atmosphere couldn't be friendlier, with great food, wine, and conversation.

...But at a dinner party, appearances rule. People get dressed up, they laugh, tell tales, show off, share memories and plans. Anxiety is hidden behind humour, sorrows smothered by bursts of laughter and, for a few hours, they believe it all! That's the main thing. So long as they follow the right rules of conduct and respect one another, chances are they'll have an enjoyable evening full of cordiality and hypocrisy. But the masks will fall as soon as everyone heads for home.

In text-speak, LOL means "laughing out loud", but in this case it is also the nickname of fifteen year old Lola, who lives with her mum, Anne.
When Lol is reunited with her boyfriend after the summer holidays, he blithely tells her he slept with someone else over the break. Lol responds to this news as any self-respecting modern girl would: she says that she too was unfaithful, dumps his sorry ass and starts cosying up to their mutual best friend, Mael. As her ex becomes nasty, her flirtation with Mael reaches boiling point, and the school trip to England looms ever closer, Lol begins to wonder if she'll make it through year ten in one piece!

With an original title named after the French term for male genitalia (LES VALSEUSES), Bertrand Blier's early feature lets viewers know right away what they're getting into.
